A Different Way of Experiencing
More than 35 years of custom framing, shaped by a lifetime of listening, creating and paying attention to how people connect with the things they value.

Where the Work Will Live
Framing decisions are easier to make when the room is part of the conversation.
FrameSmart was built around the idea that custom framing should be designed in context. Rather than asking clients to choose from a wall of samples in a showroom, I bring a focused selection of mouldings, mats and materials to the home, office or project site.
Seeing the artwork alongside the wall color, furnishings, lighting and scale of the room changes the conversation. It helps narrow the choices, makes the process less overwhelming and leads to a result that feels connected to both the object and the place where it will be seen every day.
Handcrafted with Care
Preservation
Materials and methods are selected with the artwork or object and its long-term protection in mind.

Every project is assembled with attention to fit, proportion, finish and the details that make the presentation feel resolved.
Finding the Resonance
Music has been a significant part of my daily life since I was very young. I’ve spent decades working with nonprofit organizations, listening for the stories and passions that move people to care. And for more than 35 years, I’ve framed the things people choose to live with and remember.
Those pursuits may seem unrelated, but to me they rely on much the same instinct: pay attention, understand the audience, leave room for discovery and don’t let convention determine the answer before you understand the question. A song needs space to breathe. A compelling story begins with what someone truly cares about. Impactful framing works the same way.
That might mean designing quietly around a work of art, building a presentation around a treasured jersey, or discovering that a client’s lifelong fascination with Marilyn Monroe opens an entirely different creative direction. The interesting part is rarely imposing an idea. It is finding the idea already waiting in the object, the setting and the person who brought it to me.

FrameSmart is currently led by founder and principal framer Doug Colby, with the business designed to grow around the same standards of listening, design judgment and craftsmanship.
Judgement
Not every project needs more. Good framing often comes from knowing what to add, what to leave alone and when to let the object lead.
